Gilbert & Chandler Chiropractor: Dr. BreAnn Moddes

My Chiropractic Journey

I was in a severe motor vehicle accident at age 5. I was seated in the back seat of our family car and we were struck by a man who ran a red light. Unfortunately, I was at the point of impact. My head was thrust sideways violently, and from that point forward my life was never the same.

By the time I was 10 years old and in the 5th grade, I was failing Reading, English and Social Studies. I had not completed a full week of school from age 5 to age 10 because I could not go more than a week without suffering from severe migraine headaches. My teachers mistook this as a mental disability and wanted me placed in “Special Education” classes. Things got so bad that my parents took me to a Neurologist and a Behavioral Specialist at the University of Wisconsin. Both of whom wanted to put me on very strong pharmaceutical drugs with serious side effects. My parents declined, thank God, thinking there had to be a better way.

At about the same time in my life, my dad was injured in a bicycle accident. He shattered the L4 and L5 vertebrae in his lower back. Doctors wanted to operate and told him with out it he may likely become paralyzed from the waist down. My parents had no health insurance and no money for the surgery.

One day a friend of my father’s from work suggested my father see a Chiropractor. Back in the 1980′s no one had ever heard of Chiropractic and had no idea what a Doctor of Chiropractic did. Because my dad needed help and Chiropractic treatment was affordable, he made a call for an appointment.

My dad started a Chiropractic treatment program and successfully made a full recovery with out needing drugs or surgery. About halfway through his treatment program, my dad told the Chiropractor about my missing school due to migraine headaches. She (the doctor) suggested Chiropractic could help, and my father brought me to see her immediately.

The Chiropractor did a complete examination on me and I had x-rays done of my neck. The Chiropractor discovered that my 1st cervical vertebrae had been misaligned severely, likely from that car accident when I was 5 years old. She did several adjustments on me and I stopped having the migraine headaches! I would later learn that at the level of the 1st cervical vertebrae, sits the brain stem, a critical area for proper function of the Central Nervous System. The misalignment was directly impacting my Nervous System and its ability to function.

The Chiropractic treatment altered the course of my whole life, in ways I couldn’t even have imagined at the time. I stopped missing school. My grades came up and I went from failing in grade school to being on the honor roll, and even in advanced classes by the time I was in high school. I went on to make the Dean’s List at Palmer College of Chiropractic, the toughest Chiropractic school in the nation. All because I had a great Chiropractor who restored my Central Nervous System to health. I can’t even imagine how different my life would be today if my father had not taken me to see the Chiropractor.
